Hello Invitees,
I've started this North Broward Blog as a way for us to share passionate ideas and to first just let one another know about our favorites when it comes to literature. This is a place for ideas and getting to know one another. To that end I will be posting mostly Top Ten prompts to start.
Note: No big deal if you can't fill up a Top Ten list, if you want to list three or seven, do it.
My list is sweet and simple, yet I love each of the following: Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli, for my 6th graders. It really gives them an opportunity to understand the period of segregation in our country. The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter, i read with my 8th graders. This novel gives each student the ability to understand the differences between identity and allegiance. My 7th graders are reading, The Wave by Todd Strausser. This is the first year using this novel, I will have to get back to you about the reaction of the students.
ReplyDeleteWhile teaching eighth grade last year, I rediscovered the joy of reading young adult novels. Hunger Games was one of my favorites. Currently, I am reading Matched by Ally Condie.
